Chapter 10: Areas of Two- & Three-Dimensional Figures and Volume

This chapter embraces the awesomeness that is area and volume! You will begin with the foundation of it all – perimeter and area of a rectangle. From there you will study the area of parallelograms, triangles, and complex figures before ending your study of the area of two-dimensional figures with trapezoids and circles. Throughout the chapter you will explore not only how to use the correct area formulas but master how the formulas came to be and connect to one another. In the second half of the chapter you will engage in an overview of what solids are before learning the ins and outs of finding the lateral and surface areas of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, and cones. This wild math ride concludes with the study of how to find the volumes of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres. Jump right on into your studies of the objects that make up so much of the world around you!

positive review  Love. :) My daughter took Matt’s AP Calc prep class, and my son watched the algebra prep videos. Both loved, especially my daughter who now wants to sign up for every class Matt offers. Thank you for approaching teaching in such a fun and engaging way!! So highly recommend. :)

  • 5 star review  Because he was in this class, my son spent more time doing SAT practice tests this summer than he otherwise would have. I didn't have to "nag" him to do practice tests...so, I appreciate that! He ended up knowing alot of the kids in the class, so he enjoyed it. It was also nice to do this in the summer when his schedule was less-busy. The teachers are high energy, well-respected and admired by the kids.

  • positive review  I had Matt Groden for AP Calculus and I have to say, he was and probably will be the greatest teacher I ever had. Not only was he exceptional in terms of his teaching ability and breadth of knowledge, but it is his care for learning was what made him unique. This was the first teacher in a long time that I can remember who valued learning and discovery over just memorizing and ‘teaching to the test’. His ability to make students excited to learn new math material is what makes Matt so perfectly suited for this. Anyone with the chance to learn math with him should most definitely take this opportunity - you will not be disappointed!!

5 star review  While I've never been tutored by Mr. Groden, he was one of my absolute favorite teachers. He always put in the extra effort to explain concepts, and did so so well that many of his students could attest to the fact that even Calculus BC was understandable if you had Mr. Groden for your teacher. Besides that, he made every one of his 26 students in my class excited by Calculus, by sheer force of his constant energy and emphasis of what the concepts could do. Highly recommend for tutoring!

  • 5 star review  My daughter had a great experience in Mr. Groden's SAT prep class. We had been searching for an effective affordable option and this in person class was just the right choice!! Excellent follow up and communication of expectations each week prior to class helped the kids keep on track. It also helped me know what was covered and what was expected of her. Nice work! I highly recommend!

5 star review  Mr. Groden really helped me learn the subject of geometry very well. He related certain topics to the interest of the student which helped a lot. The pointers he gave for study habits were definitely very helpful and I would recommend Mr. Groden to anybody.

  • 5 star review  My daughter was fortunate to have Mr. Groden for both AP Calc AB and BC and she rocked both classes and the AP exam. Now a college junior she's already sailed though Calc 4 and we attribute her success to the foundation she received from Mr. Groden. He loves teaching and motivating his students and that enthusiasm radiates through everything he does.

5 star review  Matt helped my daughter prepare for a test last minute when another tutor canceled only a few hours before the session! You can tell Matt genuinely cares about the students success. We hope to enroll in one of his summer sessions and SAT prep courses. Thanks again, Matt!

  • 5 star review  My son took the SAT prep class. It was a great class with fantastic instruction strategies and top notch teachers who clearly know their stuff. They made the class fun and motivated my son to do the required out-of-class practice. His scores on the practice tests consistently improved. We would absolutely recommend this class!

positive review  It was like divine intervention when my son ASKED me (I know right??) if he could take a class leading up to honors Algebra 2 in the Fall. That same day I came across Matt’s summer offerings. Matt was the perfect teacher - engaging, passionate and fun - and my son really enjoyed taking his class (ENJOYED math in the summer? I know right?). THANK YOU MATT!! He’s ready 👍

5 star review  I took a Calc. 2 class at BCCC this semester and we missed 3 weeks of class due to snow, meaning my professor had to condence the material and breeze by a lot of important concepts. If it hadn't been for Matt there is no way I would've passed the course. He presented everything in a clear, comprehensive, and easy to understand way that I've never really experienced before and I did really well because of it. He took the time to explain everything, answered all of my questions and made sure that I was keeping up with him every step of the. He's a genuine guy who really wants you to learn and enjoys teaching. I highly recommend him for anyone who is struggling with their course work, you'll never make a better investment.

  • 5 star review  My son had Mr. Groden as a teacher at PHS and my daughter attending Summer AP Calc Prep. Matt does the unthinkable, he makes Calc fun for his students and they are not afraid to make mistakes or ask for help. My daughter feels more confident having attended "math camp". Thank you!

positive review  Matt truly cares about each student. My son took his SAT prep course and his math section increased 90 points. There was great communication after each course session as the teachers would email what was covered, what to do next, and an overview of future class. He was always there to answer any question my son ( and I) had.
