Chapter 1: Algebraic Expressions & Operations with Integers

This chapter jumps into an overview of the basics of Algebra. You will begin with translating words into Algebraic expressions while learning about variables. From there you will tune up your order of operations skills before taking a tour through practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers. Note how you will learn the processes involved and also why these process make sense! Now go rock your integer concepts and skills!

  • Matt Groden is the best teacher, academic or otherwise, I've had the privilege of studying under. His passion and dedication to his craft as an educator allow him to take difficult subjects and make them somehow enjoyable. He challenges his students to rise to meet their challenge, and invests personally in their success. He possesses a unique gift to help students visualize and understand mathematical concepts and problems, in addition to the patience and commitment to make sure his students are prepared for what's coming their way. His lessons have impacted my college career in more ways than one, and I'm grateful. If you're looking for a math tutor, there's none better.

Matt has helped my son immensely in preparing both for the SATs and the AP Calculus BC exam. He has a way of explaining and teaching math that kept my son excited and energized to learn more. My son did extremely well on his SATs and was strong in Calculus, all thanks to Matt and his care for his students. If you are need for math help for your child, look no further!

  • positive review  Matt does a fantastic job of helping the students understand how to apply formulas and why they work! He never just has the students memorize formulas. My son really liked his approach and it helped that he made videos to refer to when he needed a refresher during the week. I would highly recommend his courses!

  • positive review  Thank you for offering these summer courses. I think it is important to keep up the skills over the summer and not get summer brain. You also have a wonderful teaching style which i know my daughter appreciates.

Mr. Groden came to our family's rescue not once...but twice. Both kids struggled in pre calc and we were fortunate to be put in touch with Mr. Groden. First Mr. Groden worked with my son in parallel pre calc and just recently he has helped my daughter in honors pre calc. Mr. Groden is able to really connect with his clients and explain math concepts in a way that my kids were able to understand. They both said "it clicked" and that's exactly what I wanted to hear. He took them from struggling to confident, with both kids ending out the course successfully (well...my daughter is nearing the end;).

  • Matt Groden is by far the best math instructor around!!! He has a passion for math and it shows through his ability to break down any math problem, no matter how complicated, into a simple form the student can understand. He is kind, easy going and most importantly, he truly cares about his students.

positive review  My youngest son took the Algebra 1 course to keep up his skills during summer and loved it. My oldest son had Matt for AP Calculus a few years ago and loved it. Matt Groden is a fun, patient, pleasant, very effective teacher who shows your child how to understand and love math, not dread it!

  • When multiple people from all different parts of your life compliment a teacher you have to think--how can this be? Is he for real? Is he really THAT good? So I was a little skeptical. NOT ANYMORE! Mr. Groden is the REAL DEAL! He truly loves teaching and he loves kids but most of all he loves to see kids succeed. And that's what he does. He makes kids perform better and reach their full potential. I highly recommend Matt's courses. My son just finished his SAT class and thoroughly enjoyed it (yes, he enjoyed a class---over the summer!) So what are you waiting for?? Sign your student up with Matt ASAP! Do not pass GO and do not COLLECT $200! This is real life people and Matt is the real deal!

Matt Groden was a fantastic SAT tutor for my boys. They were very reluctant to have help, but he was able to immediately win them over because of both his knowledge and confidence. The test-taking skills they learned from him definitely helped them approach the test calmly and with confidence, and their scores reflected that. I would absolutely recommend Matt to help your child with math or SAT prep. He clearly loves teaching math and knows how to do so!

  • positive review  It was like divine intervention when my son ASKED me (I know right??) if he could take a class leading up to honors Algebra 2 in the Fall. That same day I came across Matt’s summer offerings. Matt was the perfect teacher - engaging, passionate and fun - and my son really enjoyed taking his class (ENJOYED math in the summer? I know right?). THANK YOU MATT!! He’s ready 👍

My son thoroughly enjoyed taking Matt’s summer enrichment pre-calc class. He is a positive upbeat teacher who makes math fun! I would encourage any parent interested in keeping their child engaged in learning to register! He provided my child with renewed excitement in a subject for which he was losing enthusiasm. He had an amazing experience!

Matt is amazing! Both of my children see him weekly and they love when he comes to tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a different perspective on teaching math the the kids really get excited about. I don't think I have met anyone more enthusiastic about math, ever. It's inspiring for the kids to work with someone that truly loves teaching math!

  • My daughter (who usually gets straight A's) was struggling in Pre-Calculus with a D+ current grade. After tutoring with Mr. Grodan, she got an A on her final and ended up passing the class with a B. I recommend his services to anyone who is struggling with math.

  • I was lucky enough to have Mr. Groden as my teacher for two classes throughout high school. In school, math was never my strong suite but Mr. Groden was able to use real life examples that pertained to myself that helped me with understanding the math. After a couple of years, I started attending Rider University where I studied Business. I hadn't been in a math class in years so when I found out that I had to take Quantitative Methods for Business, I knew that I was in trouble. After receiving my first test and seeing that I received a low C, I reached out to Mr. Groden to see if he were doing any tutoring and surly enough he was. Mr. Groden met with me once a week and again was able to use real life examples that pertained to myself and I was able to understand the math. I ended the semester receiving an A in the class, and I know 100% I would not have reached that without Mr. Grodens help. Thank you!

  • My daughter enjoyed her Alg I review and jump start on Alg II tutoring. Something about the way Matt explained concepts made sense to her. He spoke to her in a way that helped build her confidence and made math less intimidating for her. Highly recommend!

Matt Groden is a truly innovative Math Teacher. He makes the word of mathematics real, exciting, and meaningful. When a student becomes excited about mathematics, it makes learning almost second nature. I expect nothing but good things to come from the Groden Math Academy. His students will be the fortunate ones.
