Chapter 9: Polynomials

Welcome to a major bridge between Algebra 1 and Algebra 2! This chapter begins with an introduction to what monomials and polynomials are and how to name them. You will then learn to add and subtract polynomials like a pro. From there you will master how to multiply polynomials, starting with the product of a monomial and a polynomial before rocking the FOIL method to multiply two binomials. A nice lesson on polynomial word problems follows and then it is off to factoring out greatest common factors (GCFs). The chapter ends with the all-important lessons on factoring polynomials employing the “reverse FOIL”, “guess and check”, and factoring by grouping techniques. Awe yeah!!! This chapter is pure math awesomeness!!!

Matt helped my daughter prepare for a test last minute when another tutor canceled only a few hours before the session! You can tell Matt genuinely cares about the students success. We hope to enroll in one of his summer sessions and SAT prep courses. Thanks again, Matt!

  • While I've never been tutored by Mr. Groden, he was one of my absolute favorite teachers. He always put in the extra effort to explain concepts, and did so so well that many of his students could attest to the fact that even Calculus BC was understandable if you had Mr. Groden for your teacher. Besides that, he made every one of his 26 students in my class excited by Calculus, by sheer force of his constant energy and emphasis of what the concepts could do. Highly recommend for tutoring!

Seriously a hero. I was struggling to pass the Praxis Core math section and he was great and fast with setting up a good time to meet and really helped me nail concepts that I needed. I highly recommend meeting with Matt if you feel yourself struggling in any area of math! Thank you again!

Mr. Groden was definitely the best tutor I've ever had. He makes learning easy and enjoyable and he never makes you feel dumb for asking questions. He's an amazing person and an even more amazing tutor. I would definitely recommend him for anyone struggling with math.

  • My daughter enjoyed her Alg I review and jump start on Alg II tutoring. Something about the way Matt explained concepts made sense to her. He spoke to her in a way that helped build her confidence and made math less intimidating for her. Highly recommend!

I think it is clear to anyone who has worked with Mr. Groden that he has a very special ability to empower and inspire the youth, and to teach in ways that resonate for all. His patience, compassion, flexibility, and incredibly thorough understanding of the math combine to help students realize our greatest potential -- sometimes potential that we didn’t even know was there until he helped us find it. In addition to being an amazing teacher, he is a great role model and friend to anyone he meets. So easy to talk to, so caring, so kind -- the most genuine person. I would be doing a disservice to the community if I did not spread the world about the incredible opportunity to learn with him. 5million stars

  • My son had Mr. Groden as a teacher at PHS and my daughter attending Summer AP Calc Prep. Matt does the unthinkable, he makes Calc fun for his students and they are not afraid to make mistakes or ask for help. My daughter feels more confident having attended "math camp". Thank you!

  • positive review  I can't say enough good things about Mr. Groden! He has helped my son so much. My son fights working with tutors but Mr. Groden did an excellent job pairing with my son and making him feel comfortable with him. He really understands the areas that my son struggles with and helps him in those areas while at the same time giving my son positive feedback and encouraging him. It gives me peace of mind knowing that with Mr. Groden's help my son will do well and grow and learn and be successful in his math classes!

My daughter had a great experience in Mr. Groden's SAT prep class. We had been searching for an effective affordable option and this in person class was just the right choice!! Excellent follow up and communication of expectations each week prior to class helped the kids keep on track. It also helped me know what was covered and what was expected of her. Nice work! I highly recommend!

  • When multiple people from all different parts of your life compliment a teacher you have to think--how can this be? Is he for real? Is he really THAT good? So I was a little skeptical. NOT ANYMORE! Mr. Groden is the REAL DEAL! He truly loves teaching and he loves kids but most of all he loves to see kids succeed. And that's what he does. He makes kids perform better and reach their full potential. I highly recommend Matt's courses. My son just finished his SAT class and thoroughly enjoyed it (yes, he enjoyed a class---over the summer!) So what are you waiting for?? Sign your student up with Matt ASAP! Do not pass GO and do not COLLECT $200! This is real life people and Matt is the real deal!

Matt Groden is the best teacher, academic or otherwise, I've had the privilege of studying under. His passion and dedication to his craft as an educator allow him to take difficult subjects and make them somehow enjoyable. He challenges his students to rise to meet their challenge, and invests personally in their success. He possesses a unique gift to help students visualize and understand mathematical concepts and problems, in addition to the patience and commitment to make sure his students are prepared for what's coming their way. His lessons have impacted my college career in more ways than one, and I'm grateful. If you're looking for a math tutor, there's none better.

  • I took a Calc. 2 class at BCCC this semester and we missed 3 weeks of class due to snow, meaning my professor had to condence the material and breeze by a lot of important concepts. If it hadn't been for Matt there is no way I would've passed the course. He presented everything in a clear, comprehensive, and easy to understand way that I've never really experienced before and I did really well because of it. He took the time to explain everything, answered all of my questions and made sure that I was keeping up with him every step of the. He's a genuine guy who really wants you to learn and enjoys teaching. I highly recommend him for anyone who is struggling with their course work, you'll never make a better investment.

Because he was in this class, my son spent more time doing SAT practice tests this summer than he otherwise would have. I didn't have to "nag" him to do practice tests...so, I appreciate that! He ended up knowing alot of the kids in the class, so he enjoyed it. It was also nice to do this in the summer when his schedule was less-busy. The teachers are high energy, well-respected and admired by the kids.

  • Matt has helped my son immensely in preparing both for the SATs and the AP Calculus BC exam. He has a way of explaining and teaching math that kept my son excited and energized to learn more. My son did extremely well on his SATs and was strong in Calculus, all thanks to Matt and his care for his students. If you are need for math help for your child, look no further!

positive review  Matt truly cares about each student. My son took his SAT prep course and his math section increased 90 points. There was great communication after each course session as the teachers would email what was covered, what to do next, and an overview of future class. He was always there to answer any question my son ( and I) had.
